I had the same trouble with those AVENT suckers. I loved the Dr. Brown bottles for my son. Helped a tons with gas and fussiness when he was little. They are awesome!
I'm sorry that Avent didn't work for you. The doctors in the NICU recommended Avent to us, and we loved them! In fact, we didn't find any others that worked for us. I think that every baby is different. I hope that you find something that works!
I love/hate those bottles. The leaking problem huh? It is like there is some secret power to get them on straight? I got the hang around nine months. ;) Good luck.
Just found your blog...Im a birth mom( from a long time ago) and have enjoyed reading your journey...:) Anyway I love love love playtex, and using playtex with disposable liners and the FLAT nipples, worked for every fussy baby I know and Ill be using for my little one that will be born anyday myself. Good luck!
Ok I actually love these bottles and haven't had one problem with them...the TRICK (as mothers in daycare told me while I worked there) do not screw them on too tight. Just when it get a bit snug stop. Then no more leaking problems!
Wow, just the mention of a four letter word, and you get comments up the wazoo. Having never used advent, I wasn't sure what four letter word you were referring to...perhaps Love? Love ya tons. Amy
Avent made my kids choke I kate them. We did the Playtex air flow ones with the girls and since we had to ween Boston so early we used these ones called breast flow from Target. LOVE THEM!
OK....so I have to add my 2 cents. I use Playtex Drop-Ins and have never had a problem (they have a great adapter to pump into too....for those breast and bottle feeding). But, I have a good friend who uses the Avent bottles (she has a daughter who has really bad feeding problems and they have been recommended by the specialists she sees). Anyhow, she hated how they would leak all the time and then she had no idea how much her daughter had actually taken in. She told me the trick to check if you have a good seal is to cover the nipple opening with your finger and push the nipple down. If you hear air, you need to put the nipple back on...it isn't screwed on straight. You should hear NO air leaking from the bottle when you do this test. You may just have to play around with different bottles too. My babysitter thought Ian didn't eat well with the Drop-Ins, so I bought some of the Air-Vent ones. He did alright and then started teething....then would only take the softer nipple from the Drop-Ins. I almost bought an Avent bottle to try too. I think each baby just has to find what they like....and each mom too! Good luck!
OK....so one more thing. I just talked to my friend who used to have this same problem. She said that you should not have a problem any more if you check the seal first. But, if you do...you need to make sure you dry the bottle and ring where the threads are before attempting again. If it is still all wet, you will never be able to get a good seal. Just another bit of advice. Oh, and she said it really makes no difference how tight or loose you screw it on. Sometimes she's able to get a good seal when it's looser and sometimes she has to tighten it. Good luck and let us know if your problem resolves, I'm curious to see.
you already have plenty of "advise" here- I love avent. All my kids love them too (but they would take anything, including the cheap old school playtex) mine never leak. However, the screwing on does make a difference in how hard your little one has to suck to get the milk out. I do only screw it on just barely tight-it does make a differnce-no matter the type of bottle! What really would make me say a four letter word is the fact that for wahtever reason you hate them and they ARE NOT CHEAP!

Bren, when are you coming to visit me? I could definitely use some distraction. Sorry for the bottle trouble.
Bren-
I KNOW!!! Seriously, try playtex- I know they may seem a little old fashioned, but they NEVER leak.....

You probably got enough advice on here already, but this little 6 month old I watch has Dr. Browns and we've yet to have a problem :)
Dear Avent,
You make my sister say funny things on her blog that crack me up!!!
Thanks, Candis
