sick again, lots of fun homeschooling, baking and a yellow belt...

We had a good week despite Oak being sick again. We got alot of homeschooling in this week. It was a lot of fun. I think we are finally all well and hopefully we will all stay that way.

We finally got around to writing our penpals back. This is the best Mac has ever done in writing his penpal. I usually have to ask him to keep writing and I didn't have to this time.

I made a salt tray for Oak while Mac was gone to the Homeschool Center. She loved it. We worked on her writing some sight words.

Then I pulled out these cookie cutters and she loved using them in the salt.
She played in for a good long time.

When we went to TKD monday night we were surprised that Mac was able to test for his yellow belt. He did great and definitely earned it.

This was a random activity that we did that ended up turning into a lesson on names of shapes. The kids loved it!

She was pretty proud of her Bb.

A little phonics work.

Oak loves doing her phonics workbook.

Even though she only needed to write the letter, she was adamant on writing the whole word from the picture. I love her phonetic spelling, so cute!

Mac asked to do some graphing so we made a graph where he could ask people what their favorite color was. He was able to take it to the homeschool center and ask everyone there. Oak wanted to do one too so we ended up taking the graphs to the grocery store later and they both asked random people in the store. They loved it!

The next day we talked about the graph and what the numbers mean and I had him do some tallying and then do some numeric sequencing (or what ever it is called).

We got the salt trays out again because Mac didn't get to do it. After writing his spelling words in the salt he got to just draw. After shaking the tray to erase his letters, the salt made a shape that looked like a mountain to him I guess so he made a water cycle picture. Clever kid!

Temple

Oak's zebra. She did this all on her own with the letter Z and all.

Mac made some English Muffin Bread all no his own. I was just there to make sure he did it right.

Mac loves getting out the dry erase board and writing down random 3 digit addition problems to do. He is getting pretty good.

Mac wanted to do this work sheet.

Mac helping grandma figure out her iPhone.

We made homemade playdough and the kids had fun playing with it after they did their sight/spelling words for the week.

Mac working on his spelling words.

I ran to the store one night to get some spaghetti for dinner and found these little packages of Mini eggs. It was heavenly and totally made my night.

On our way to TKD Mac wrote this. It about broke my heart.
"Grandpa. I do not know why you died, why. Come back! I'm sad with out you."

Oak was sick so she had to stay home from TKD and she was not happy about us leaving without you. And also wrote this to her on the way to TKD. Sweet brother...sometimes.

I have decided to work on a spelling list and do a test every week. I am hoping this will help with his spelling and penmanship. Because I scored him on both for his test. He did great!

We have also started a reading log for Mac. He can choose any book to read that he hasn't read before and he can log it with the date, title, pages and minutes read. After he gets to 25 I will treat him to Jump N Jax. Oak is also doing a log for someone reading her a book.

After a few months with no fits or even a mention of how her clothes fit, she is back to excessive fits over how her clothes fit. It is tiring! They last a good hour and then set the tone for the rest of the day. Hopefully with a lot of love and patience, it will all pass quickly and she will be back to not caring.

We played Monopoly Junior quite a few times this week. I love that both my kids are old enough to play board games with. It's so fun! This was our longest game yet and lasted about 45 minutes. Oak won with $33 and I lost and ended the game.

Some one in the homeschooling community has offered a very affordable art class once a week for 7 weeks for homeschool kids. We signed up and the kids have been so excited. They had their first class on Friday and loved it.

They listened to music and drew what the music reminded them off or how it made them feel.

Mac made brownies from  a box by himself for our Friday night dessert.

The kids and Grandma played in a whole world of pretend for over an hour. Mac planned her wedding, got married, had a baby, and named the baby and all sorts of other things. It was adorable to watch and listen to. I love Mac's drawing on the white board of the front of a car. They are driving to the wedding in the photo.

Saturday I finally got around to going through the box of photos that I had gotten out of my dads wood shop when they were moving out of their house. So many precious pictures of my dad as a kid and of his family.

It was Oak's turn for a date with dad. They were going to go ice skating because she has been begging to go, but they were closed so they went to the driving range. It was cold and windy though so it wasn't very fun for them.
