The 4th at the Lake 2012

Every year we go to the Lake House for the 4th of July with Hubs' family. It is my favorite summer holiday and favorite family vacation. This year's visit was a little tougher than some in the past. But I still hated to leave when we had to pack up and come home. I felt like we didn't get to soak in as much fun as I would have liked. The weather was beautiful! And the kids had fun playing out side.
The day we left for the Lake House Oak had a fever. She seemed fine so we went anyway. She was fine while we were there but pretty clingy and really wouldn't let anyone else hold her or help her with anything. And she wasn't her normal happy, easy going self. Then by Thursday Mac ended up with a fever. I should have seen that coming because he was a stinker while we were there. He had the hardest time listening and obeying. I mean right out refused to obey. I felt like I was continually reminding him to not shoot the nerf gun at someone or not spray water at someone and he would get warned and then he would still disobey. Mac is four years old and does this occasionally but it was constant while we were there. He kept on lying to us about this and that and kept on peeing his pants without telling us. When I would talk to him about all of these things, he could not listen and it would go through one hear and out the other. I was loosing it, seriously!! And there were the moments he was so great and would listen great. He was totally bi-polar. (He is now back to his normal self, thankfully). Oak ended up being the same way once we got home and I have never seen her so grumpy. She would want something and then you would give it to her and she wouldn't want it and would get mad. Nothing made her happy and she spent most of the day yesterday crying and throwing herself on the floor and clinging to us but not wanting us. I just had to laugh it off or else I would cry, because it was so frustrating to not be able to help her. Now that fevers are gone they both have coughs and snotty noses.
All the guys worked on the actual house. They spent almost all day, everyday fixing the water pump, building a pump house for the pump, pressure washing the house and painting the entire exterior of the house. They were still working on painting when we left and Hubs' dad actually fell off a ladder and broke three ribs. OUCH! I guess Hub's fell off a ladder too. Actually he said the ladder tipped and he fell off and the ladder landed on top of him. He said he was just up three rungs so he is just bruised up a bit, thankfully. He didn't actually tell me until hours later.

Every year we take a picture of the kids in their red, white and blue with the flag. This year we added the chalk board sign with the date. Looking back it is crazy to see how they have grown every year. Love all of these kids!

The big excitement for the boys this year was fishing. They were in heaven. Mac caught his very first fish all by himself. He was so proud and so cute holding it up.

This is what the doc looked like most of the time. The boys fishing and the girls swimming.

The girls let the little boys push them off the dock.

Hubs took Mac fishing out on the paddle boat and Hubs said he really got the hang of casting. But he didn't catch anything.

The kids' cousins got a new puppy and Oak LOVED it! His name is Maximus Biscuit or "Max". He is cute, but a chewer. He pulled my shoe right of my foot and started chewing on it. It was actually quite funny!

Just eating a snack outside. My kids pretty much refused to eat anything fruits or veggies there even though there wasn't a ton of junk food.

Playing with the water squirters. This was one of those times that I told him numerous time to only squirt towards the lake and then he almost soaked his Aunt twice.

Mac and Grandma.

The boys getting excited to head out tubing.

Mac's first time tubing. He was so excited!

I just love the light in this one.

That is screaming of excitement. He LOVED IT!!

Wind blown hair. This is what his hair looked like when he got back in the boat.

Just enjoying the ride.

Trying to fish again.

The kids talked Uncle Spencer into taking them down to the dock to fish. There were four little boys with fishing poles and Uncle Spencer spent most of the time untangling fishing wire. It was very amusing.

Oak wanted to swim in the lake. So we let her.

Mac even jumped in. He liked it but doesn't really know how to be in the water with a life jacket on.

Oak like it at first but when daddy would go further from the dock...

she got upset.

My sister-in-law made these brownie cake balls dipped in colored chocolate. Isn't it cute!?!

There was lots of lego playing. Mac brought his little set, but Grandma brought her big basket of legos from her classroom and they were spread on a blanket up stairs. My nephew, who is 14, made all the Washington D.C. monuments. It was very cool.

Playing with cousins.

The evening of the 4th the Lake had fireworks over the lake. All the kids and dads pile into the boat and go watch, but this year we didn't let Mac go. With how he had been acting and Hubs is uncomfortable being in the boat at night we just did some fireworks of our own. And Mac was actually okay with that.

Everybody lining up to get there sparklers lit.

And my beloved Chacos finally bit the dust! SO SAD! I have had these for about 7 years and I LOVE THEM! I wear them all the time, as you can tell from my tan line. I am going to have to save my money to buy me some new ones and wear cheap, uncomfortable sandals from walmart, bah!

Yes, I was there too!

Love how Mac is standing. He kept on saying things like..."Let's see how this baby does!" referring to the fireworks. I was laughing so hard. What a cutie!

Mac helping paint the new pump house.

They found a little snake and my kids loved it!.

Even Oak!

My patriotic cuties!

The grandboys!!

Oak really wanted to go on a boat ride, so we went and got gas in it. I don't think she went on the boat last summer, so this would have been her first boat ride.

Daddy let Mac drive the boat without help.

Pulling into the county dock.

Mac looking for ducks in the canal.

Oak driving.

Oak waiting patiently to roast marshmallows.

Mac so proud of himself for climbing this rickety ladder.

She loved getting sticky!

Until next year...
