Our first snow in K Falls.

So all week they said we were going to get snow here. And the kids were disappointed everyday. Finally Saturday late afternoon, Mac yells, "Mom its snowing!" He was so excited and he sat at the window watching it until there was enough snow for us to go out and play in it. Thankfully I got the last piece of snow gear I needed for the kids, which was waterproof gloves that I could actually get on the kids hands. I still need to get me some snow boots, my toes were cold in my rubber rain boots.

 So after about 30 minutes of getting them dressed we were able to go out and enjoy the snow in our parking lot. THe snow was great packing snow, so Mac was able to FINALLY have a snow ball fight. It was a lot of fun. After it started to get dark outside we decided to go on a bit of walk. Then we came in and Daddy made homemade hot chocolate. When the kids went to bed they ended up opening up their blinds and watched the snow fall while they went to sleep. We woke up to about 4 inches of snow the next day (today). 

It will probably mostly be melted by the end of the week as it will get up to 50 degrees this week. 

Oak spent a lot of time just rolling around in the snow in the parking lot. 

snow, snow, snow...the last three days.

That's eight days! And school was canceled for six days.

The night of the seventh day the temperature finally warmed up a bit and it started raining, which then turned all the snow into slippery slush. That night I went to visit my in-laws and because I didn't listen to my wise Father-in-law I got stuck and he had to get me out. Ug, I learned my lesson.

After we got back from my parents house we got to spend the next couple of days playing with our neighbor friends. We even did a little bit of sledding on the perfect little hill in our neighborhood that is actually a walking path that is sloped because it is at the base of a hill. The kids really had a blast and actually I did too.

The last day there wasn't much snow because of the rain that I already mentioned. But the snow was finally wet enough to actually make snow balls and a snow man.

Oak fell and got hurt so she spent the rest of our play time doing this.

Then she became a superhero.

It was all fun while it lasted but I am sure glad we are back to normal, weather wise.

snow, snow, snow!!!...the first five days...

So this last Friday I was planning on going to my parents house to spend the weekend. But the weather showed snow in the forecast for Friday so we decided to head out a day early and hope that there was enough snow to cancel school Friday. So glad we did because when we woke up Friday morning at my parents house it was SNOWING! My kids were so excited! Not long after, I got the call from the school saying school was cancelled. And a little bit later I got a text from my neighbor wondering where we were so we could all go out and play in the snow together. Since we weren't there she texted me a pic of her backyard. They had five inches and it wasn't stopping. There was barely two inches at my parents house. 

Seven days later the snow has not melted! It has been way too cold, and just in the last two days have we barely gotten above freezing in the afternoon. We even had sub-zero temps which pretty much never happens where we live. We had one day of the second coldest day on record. And only by about two degrees. So Mac has had a full week off of school and most likely will finish out this week with no school. It has been great not to have to worry about school but Mac now only has one week left of school before winter break. And he will not be going back to school after winter break (because we are moving and I will be homeschooling him). Also his birthday is this Saturday and he was excited for me to bring treats into class for his birthday. He was excited because he would get to eat the same treat as everyone else (He isn't allowed to eat anything anybody brings to school because of his nut allergy. But his teacher has a special stash just for him so he isn't totally left out.)

The kids have loved the snow if you couldn't tell. And as much as I dislike the snow and being cold and wet, it is so much fun to play in it with my kids.

Another thing about this snow is that it is all POWDER. Which is also not normal for where we live. You couldn't make a snowball or a snowman with it. 

So this is just the five days we spent at my parents house.

Snow day!!!

So Sunday morning we woke up to snow. It was beautiful and both my kids were just completely enamored by it and just stood at the window watching it all morning. We didn't go out and play in it because we have church at 10am and Hubs was at his meeting. It is already hard to get us all ready by myself for church and knew adding playing in the snow to the morning would only complicate things. But thankfully Mac was ok with waiting until after church and never complained about that. When we were leaving for church ALL of the neighborhood kids were out playing in the snow across the street in the neighbors large side yard. I thought he would freak out and instead he just asked why they weren't going to church. It snowed alot while we were at church but by the time we got home most of it was melted. We did have a little in our backyard so Daddy and Mac went out and played in it for a little while.

But thankfully when we woke up Monday morning we had more snow! YAY!!! Mac was told that as soon as he got his room cleaned up he could go and play in the snow. (We have a new policy in our house called "Work then play!!") He was a very big slow poke and just wasnt' getting the job done until I talked to him about how it was going to make him feel that if he chose to not clean his room and he looked out the window and saw all of his friends playing and he couldn't go out. He finally realized how he would actually feel instead of us just threatening him. And he hopped right to it. Finally I texted all the neighborhood moms that we were heading outside and hoped they could come and play with us. Not long after that almost every one was out. Have I mentioned how much I LOVE our neighborhood?!

Oh and I feel bad that I had layed Oak down for a nap and she didn't get to play in the snow at all. I had even bought her some little snow boot in anticipation of this snow.

I really don't like snow all that much because I hate being cold and wet. But since Mac has been old enough to play in it and we live in a fun neighborhood I get super excited! Fun memories!
